Do something about Gentrification: Strengthen Tenant Protections | Change
As the tech bubble continues to expand, Oakland is feeling intense housing pressures, pushing rents up to some of the highest in the country, and pushing working class families and people of color out of our town. This is Gentrification folks! Would you believe that, even with article after article coming out about the pressures of displacement facing Oakland, the City Council is still not unified on passing some crucial rental protections to keep our communities from being priced out?

Please sign this petition to the Oakland City Council today. Tell them to take immediate action to strengthen protections for tenants. There are policies facing them right now and more that we plan on introducing in the coming months that can put the brakes on gentrification. Tell the City Council to get on the right side of history and cast their vote against displacement. Each signature on this change.org petition sends an email directly to the Council members!
The letter reads:

We, the residents of Oakland, need you to take action to put the brakes on gentrification and the displacement of residents. Rents are going through the roof. Landlords are doing anything they can to push tenants out and get higher rents from the next tenants. Rent increases are rampant, evictions just as bad. We need action now. This is not inevitable. There are policies you can pass to have an impact and to protect the residents of your district from displacement. Support the Tenant Justice Campaign’s demands to reform the rent regulations. Support Just Cause’s campaign to put a new initiative on the ballot. Move some strong protections to push back on gentrification and to make Oakland affordable to all of our residents.

Sincerely,
